Telegram Video Downloader — Coming Soon (Browser Extension)

Save videos and media from Telegram’s web client as MP4 files directly in your browser. This extension is currently in development and has not been released yet.

Telegram Video Downloader is an upcoming browser extension that will let users capture and save videos shared in Telegram channels, groups, and private chats through the web client at web.telegram.org. Instead of relying on third-party sites or screen recording workarounds, the extension is designed to detect inline video playback in the Telegram web interface and offer a direct download path to a local MP4 file.

Why Telegram Video Downloader

Telegram’s web client at web.telegram.org plays videos inline within chat threads, but it does not expose a native download button for most media. Videos shared in channels and groups play inside the browser viewport, and while the mobile and desktop apps sometimes allow saving media to a device, the web client offers no equivalent file-save workflow. Right-clicking the video element typically yields no usable download link because the media is streamed through a protected delivery mechanism.

Telegram Video Downloader is being designed to operate directly inside the browser tab where the web client runs. The extension will identify video elements as they play, resolve the underlying media source, and give you a one-click path to save the file as a standard MP4 on your local machine. No copy-pasting URLs into external converters, no screen recording, and no desktop app required.

Planned Features

How It Will Work

  1. Install the extension once it is released.
  2. Open web.telegram.org in your browser and sign in to your Telegram account.
  3. Navigate to the channel, group, or chat containing the video you want to save.
  4. Play the video inline so the browser begins loading the media stream.
  5. Open the extension popup to see the detected video source.
  6. Select the video you want to download from the list of detected media.
  7. Choose your preferred resolution if multiple options are available.
  8. Start the download and save the MP4 file to your local machine.

Exported files will be saved as MP4, which is universally compatible with desktop players, mobile devices, video editors, and social media upload workflows.

About Telegram

Telegram is a cloud-based messaging platform used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide. It supports one-on-one chats, large group conversations, and broadcast channels, all of which can include shared videos, photos, documents, and other media. The Telegram web client at web.telegram.org provides browser-based access to these features and plays videos inline, but it does not offer a built-in option to save video files locally. Telegram Video Downloader is being built to fill that gap for users who want a simple, browser-native way to keep local copies of videos they encounter in the web client.
